As the first woman member of the Burbank Noon Lions, Marva Murphy, volunteers with the club lending her skill as a PR Specialist, as well as chairing and participating in numerous charitable projects. She received her 15-year membership pin in June of 2004. She is also a Melvin Jones Fellow and a recipient of the LCIF President's Certificate of Appreciation.
Murphy is owner of a public relations firm specializing in small businesses and non-profit. She is a graduate of California State University, Northridge with a BA in Journalism and a minor in Cultural Anthropology. As a freelance writer, she has written columns for Knight Ridder publications and Los Angeles Times community newspapers.
Murphy has had the opportunity to participate in Lions in Sight extended eye clinic trips throughout the world, as well as several long weekend clinics in Mexico.
She is also busy in the community as a Burbank City Council appointed representative on one of the Boards and Commissions, and serves as the liaison to another Board. Not long ago, she was installed as a member in a professional women's organization. For her own personal entertainment, she is a partner in a women's investment club and takes Jazz Rock dance classes. She also has been studying Polynesian dances for the past 6 years, having performed with classmates at social functions in the area as a member of Na Wahine Hula Me Ke Aloha (Aloha Hula Ladies).
