Lions In Sight of California and Nevada (LIS) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) California corporation. LIS is an endorsed project of Lions Clubs International’s Multiple District 4 and has been designated by Lions Clubs International as the Lions Clubs International Recycling Center for the Western United States.
Our Mission
The mission of Lions In Sight is to promote the collection of used eyeglasses for the purpose of recycling and use in developing nations worldwide and to provide no cost primary eye care to the needy and low-income citizens in economically disadvantaged countries. Our Work
Approximately 161 million people in this world are visually disabled or blind and approximately 2 billion people need eyeglasses. Unfortunately, in developing countries, most of the people cannot afford proper eye care. This limits their vision, their ability to work and their quality of life.

“A New Life”
At a recent vision clinic in Iguala, Mexico, a young twelve year old boy was brought by his mother who told us that he was flunking out of school because he could not see. He was barely able to read the large E, 20/400 and could not read anything closeup. Dr. Mark Mclain found him to be very farsighted (+10). For those of you who have participated in a clinic you know how bad that is! This boy was so elated that he told the interpreter to tell Dr. Mclain that he had given him a new life. What a tear jerker!
Papantla, Mexico
LIS doctors and technicians flew in to either Veracruz or Poza Rica, Mexico and were met by members of the Papantla Lions. The team came together Thursday evening on the balcony of a restaurant overlooking the Plaza de Armas in Papantla. The cold drinks helped overcome the heat and humidity and also afforded the team the opportunity to develop beginning relationships with the local Lions. A dinner consisting of local typical dishes was served.
Jamshedpur
November 2007 Lions In Sight, Lions International eyeglass recycle center for the western United States, sent two teams of Optometrists and technicians to India to conduct temporary eye clinics to provide free vision care to the underprivileged. One team set up in Mumbai and the other set up in Jamshedpur. The last village visited in Jamshedpur was the turning point as about 300 villagers, some of whom had walked 10 plus miles, could not be served due to a lack of time and resources.
